Wireless setup for Windows XP SP2

 

1. Right Click on the wireless Icon in the lower right hand side of the Desktop.


2. Select the Open Network connections option.


 

3. When the Network Connections window opens up, click on the Wireless Network Connection one time to select it.


 

4. Right click on the Wireless Network Connection to show the sub  menu.  Select the Properties option.


 

5. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties window, select the Wireless Networks tab.


 

6. If not checked, ensure that there is a check in the box labeled Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. 

7.  Click on the Add button.


 

8. In the Wireless network properties box, under the Association tab, in the Network name (SSID) field, enter the following in lowercase letters only.   utepwl1

 9. In the same window, for the Data encryption drop down menu, select: Disabled

 10.  At this point, this is all of the configuring required to gain access to the UTEP wireless network.  Press OK for any remaining opened windows.


 

11. From the Wireless Network Connections Properties window, click on the Advanced tab.


 

12. Under the Advanced tab, in the Windows Firewall section, click on the Settings button.


 

13. Ensure that the On option is selected.

14. Click on the Advanced tab.


 

15. Click on the Wireless Network Connection to select.

16. Click on the Settings button.


 

17. In the Advanced settings window, click the ICMP tab.


 

18. If not checked already, place a check in the box labeled: Allow incoming echo request.

19. Click on the OK button.


 

20.In the Windows  Firewall window, under the ICMP section, click on the Settings button.


 

21. If not already checked, place a check in the box labeled, Allow incoming echo request.

22. Click OK for any remaining open windows.

 


 

23. Open Internet Explorer and Click on Tools.

24. On the sub menu, select Internet Options.

 

 

25. In the Internet Options window, Click on the Privacy tab.

26. In the Pop-up Blocker section, click the Settings button.

 

 

27. In the Pop-up Blocker Settings window, in the Address of Web site to allow: field, enter the following:  10.0.1.7

28. Click the Add button.

29. Click the Close button, and the OK buttons for any remaining opened windows.

(This part is necessary to log out of the BlueSocket security gateway.  This will allow the log out pop up window to open upon initial authentication.)
